Afrobasket 2025 (Q): Libya surprises Nigeria with an 82-89 Win

NIGERIA’S senior men’s basketball team D’Tigers has lost to Libya with an 82-89 loss in the opening game of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket qualifiers in Monastir, Morocco.

The Libyans dominated the court in the first quarter, leading the D’Tigers with a nine-margin gap of 25-16.

The Libyan team put in a spectacular performance in the Afrobasket 2025 qualifying group.

Having come out of the preliminaries, the Libyans dominated Nigeria (89-82) on Friday February 23 in Tunis. The D Tigers had initially declared their withdrawal from the tournament before reversing their decision.

They returned to Tunisia on Friday. And FIBA declared the game at 7pm to allow the Nigerians to recover. Despite Mika Nuga’s 28 points, Nigeria fell to Libya. The Nigerians will try to bounce back this Saturday 24th against Uganda.
