The head coach of the Nigerian Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro has resigned, following hi contract expiration with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

Jose Peseiro, a 63-year-old Portuguese, led the Nigerian national team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but lost to the host nation Cote d’Ivoire.

Peseiro took over as head coach of the Nigerian team in May 2022 after Austin Eguavoen vacated the position.

Peseiro is not considering renewing his contract with the Nigerian team. He is already eyeing better offers from 7 other teams.

“My contract ends in two days (February 29). I received a lot of options, a lot of contacts from national teams or clubs. I would say 5, 6 or 7,” he said in an interview with Goal.com on Tuesday.

Peseiro is allegedly in talks with the Algerian Football Federation and 6 other clubs, including the Egyptian club Zamalek, which have offered him new contracts to head their teams.

NFF offers Jose Peseiro same pay for new contract

NFF is said to have made Jose Peseiro an offer of same $50,000 monthly salary to continue as coach of the Super Eagles.

REPORT AFRIQUE Sports gathered that Peseiro wanted an improved pay and also demanded that his main assistant, Acacio Santos, be absorbed fully on the backroom staff of the national team.

Santos is considered Peseiro’s engine room on and off the pitch.
